Meet the team
Optometrist and owner of the practice, Mr Victor Cottam is a highly experienced clinician. Respected throughout the profession, he is an ex-elected councillor for the Association of Optometrists and chairman of the Local Optometric Committee. He attends training events throughout the year and always invests in new technology. His friendly manner mean his patients return year after year.
Ceri Smith-Jaynes qualified in 2000 and has worked with Mr Cottam for 5 years. She also works as a clinical editor for the professional magazine Optometry Today, which means she keeps at the forefront of new developments in optics. She has presented on eye health topics for her peers and the local eye charity N-Vision and BBC Radio Lancashire have called upon her for expert opinion.
Nicky Hutchinson, Practice Manager, has been in optics over 25 years. During this time she has been involved with all aspects of the profession from the lens laboratory and repairs workshop to dispensing spectacles and has been in the management sector for 17 years. She has built up a considerable expertise in lenses and spectacle frames but specialises in Zeiss' high-performance designs. In her spare time she travels around the country with her husband and daughter, who is an accomplished equestrian show jumper.
Jenna O’Neill, Dispensing Optician, has been at Cottam and Glaister since 2006. Jenna is a qualified dispensing optician and, as such, has a university degree in ophthalmic dispensing. She enjoys all aspects of working in practice, learning about advancing technology and breakthroughs in equipment and products. When not in practice she loves spending time with her husband Stuart and their three boys.
Peter Simmonds, Optical Technician, has been in optics over 49 years and runs the glazing laboratory and repair workshop upstairs at Cottam and Glaister. He has of course seen many changes, with technology constantly evolving to produce better designs of optical lenses. His spare time is spent with his wife and grandchildren or tending his allotment.
Michaela King, Clinical Assistant, joined Cottam and Glaister in June 2012 having always had a keen interest in optics. Her role involves taking Optomap images and performing clinical tests, the results of which go through to the examination room for the optometrists to look at. She recently married her husband in Greece and they enjoy listening to their vinyl record collection.
Beverly Mashayekhy, optical receptionist and the newest member of the team at Cottam and Glaister, joined us in 2014. Coming from a health care background, she prides herself on giving a first class service. She is looking forward to furthering her career with us and running her next 10k.
Becca Byrne, has been an optical assistant at Cottam and Glaister for the past six years. She enjoys her time at work due to the nature of each patient being unique and individual. In her spare time she enjoys regular trips to Tenerife to visit her family with her little boy and husband.
Emma Webster, has been a clinical assistant at Cottam and Glaister since 2006. She enjoys all aspects of optics: performing the pre-screening, Optomap images and field of vision tests and she loves the fact that no two patients are the same. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her partner and little boy, taking their dog, Bailey, for long walks.
